About Me

Jay Everson has over 20 years experience supporting production infrastructure and software R&D Labs. He has 12+ years experience in management and has also spent time in Architect and Team Lead roles.

Mr. Everson has 15+ years experience managing IT infrastructure projects of varying sizes in both functional and matrix organizations. These projects have included data center build-outs, campus relocations, storage deployment and migrations, application roll-outs and migrations, and data center virtualization. He is comfortable working with globally dispersed teams. He is also experienced in using popular tools such as Microsoft Project and SharePoint.

He has an unusual breadth of technical skills. He has worked as a hands-on system administrator, supporting Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, IRIX, Linux, and Windows server and Desktop operating systems. He has supported infrastructure services including DNS, Active Directory, NIS, DHCP, and Web Servers. He has experience managing Cisco and 3COM network devices. He also has some experience with Oracle, Sybase, MS/SQL, and MySQL databases.

Mr. Everson has been responsible for multiple ITSM projects and is familiar with ITIL concepts. He has developed processes to support ITIL-driven implementations, designing the workflow for Helpdesk, Asset Management, and Change Management, including CMDB integration, implementing a 24×7 service desk, and defining SLAs and service metrics. In fact, he has extensive experience in developing service metrics and reporting, and understands how to properly use those to identify support trends and improve overall organizational performance. He has been quoted as an “Industry Expert” on service metrics in a well known trade magazine.

Currently Mr. Everson is specializing in acquisitions, divestitures, real estate expansions and consolidations, campus relocations, IT infrastructure projects, and IT Service Management (ITSM).

Mr. Everson is a strong leader and believes that Leadership is the ability to convey a vision and “connecting the dots” to day-to-day activities. It is inspiring people to commit to the vision in a way that they will perform to the best of their abilities. It requires the ability to connect with people in a way that earns confidence and respect.

He believes a good leader needs to have the skills to communicate with a variety of different types of people. They need to build relationships and/or demonstrate through actions and words that they know what they are doing and will not waste your time or lead you to failure.

The root of his leadership philosophy is summarized very well by Isaac in the third episode of Sports Night.

But mostly because when you feel that strongly about something you have a responsibility to try and change my mind. Did you think I would fire you simply because you made a convincing argument? It’s taken me a lot of years but I’ve come around to this: If you’re dumb, surround yourself with smart people. And if you’re smart, surround yourself with smart people who disagree with you. I’m an awfully smart man.

IT Architect Melbourne IT
Jay is a “can do” project manager who’s breadth of skills and experience allow him to keep IT projects on target, no matter the obstacles the project faces. Jay communicated well with project members located on 3 different continents. Because of his background, Jay was able to assist technical staff with many “hands on” tasks and he was able to offer good technical observations when problems occurred. It was a pleasure working with Jay. His commitment to getting a project completed within scope and with a good result for all stake holders is refreshing and welcome. I am happy to give Jay an unreserved recommendation for any IT Project Management role.
